The Student Council hosted a luncheon in honor of Veteran's Day.  Over 20 veterans came and enjoyed a delicious meal of Chicken Spaghetti, green beans, salad and homemade desserts.  We thank all Student Council members who helped greet, serve food, and visited with our local veterans.  Thank you also to Mrs. Kendra Dunn, Student Council sponsor, for organizing the luncheon.   It was a very small way to show our grateful appreciation to all who have served our great country.

Miss Modlin's Environmental Science class was awarded $600 to conduct a project about water availability and its quality by the TODAY Foundation out of Dallas.  The award is a sub-grant for the Paddlefish Reintroduction Education Initiative.  The project aligns very well with the state science standard and addresses a national priority for protecting America’s waters.  During the spring semester, students will take a first-hand look at Daingerfield’s available water, how to conserve it, as well as how to use water testing protocols to check its quality.

Miss Modlin has a college degree in biology and a Masters of Education degree in curriculum.  In addition, she is certified as a Project WET instructor, which uniquely qualifies her for this particular project.

TODAY Foundation is an education charity, which sponsors the Collins Academy in Jefferson.  Collins Academy, having no students of its own, focuses on educational research and development and promotes high quality science, technology, engineering, and mathematics instruction in East Texas schools.  The Academy is implementing the Foundation’s Environmental Education Model Grant award recently received from the United States Environmental Protection Agency.  Today’s award is a sub-grant stemming from the larger EPA grant.
